Cary joins Clean Air Counts program

The village of Cary was notified recently that the village has been accepted into membership in the Metropolitan Mayors and Clean Air Counts program as a Clean Air Community. Cary will join neighboring communities in this important environmental effort, including the village of Algonquin and city of Crystal Lake.

"Cary has always been a leader in environmental stewardship, from award-winning recycling programs to award-winning tree preservation efforts," said Mayor Steve Lamal.

"Becoming a member of the metropolitan region's Clean Air Counts campaign is a natural continuation of our ongoing environmental protection efforts," Lamal said.

The village has already been supporting the Clean Air Counts Campaign through the publishing of education materials in the village's newsletter.

"We intend to continue promoting clean-air initiatives as well as energy efficiency practices," said Cameron Davis, village administrator. "We are already using blended fuels in some village vehicles and we continue a very active tree-planting program throughout the community," he added.

The village has also recently established a new Memorial Grove tree-planting area. Located at the village's Tom Vieweg Nature Area, a memorial grove has been established to allow individuals to plant trees in honor of friends and family members who have died. The area is located adjacent to the Cary Creek. In only its first month, two individuals have taken advantage of the opportunity, planting trees in the Memorial Grove to honor deceased friends.
