Classical guitarist to perform at MCC
Classical guitarist Brian Torosian will perform a complete solo recital for the Second Sunday Concert Series at 3 p.m. Sunday at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
He will perform works by composers John Dowland, Sylvius Leopold Weiss, Fernando Sor, J.K. Mertz, Edward Bayer, Isaac Albeniz and Agustin Barrios.
Torosian is an active soloist and chamber musician on guitar, lute and mandolin. In addition to completing doctoral studies at Northwestern University with Anne Waller, Torosian studied with Oscar Ghiglia at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, where he received honorary diplomas of merit and an honorary scholarship.
Torosian serves on the faculty at DePaul University and directs the guitar program at Northeastern Illinois University, where he recently received a Faculty Excellence Award.
He also is an annual participant and instructor in the Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival, as well as a board member of the Chicago Classical Guitar Society.
