Second bill of rights: University of Chicago law professor Cass R. Sunstein speaks on "Does America Need A Second Bill of Rights?" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Scholl Hall, Room 101, on campus.

In his inaugural address in 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to make a greater commitment to economic and social rights by adopting a "second Bill of Rights" that would guarantee work, adequate housing and income, medical care and education to each citizen.

Sunstein took up the cause in his book, "The Second Bill of Rights: FDR's Unfinished Revolution & Why We Need It More than Ever," published in 2004.

The symposium will be moderated by Jim Ryan, a Distinguished Fellow at Benedictine and former Illinois attorney general. To RSVP, call (630) 829-6400.

Preserving keepsakes: Benedictine's Friends of the Library program offers two workshops Nov. 17 designed to help families preserve their documents and photographs.

"Preserving Your Family History" from 1 to 3 p.m. instructs students in the best methods for storage, housing, climate control and use of family archival materials.

The workshop will be conducted by Benn Joseph, special collections librarian at Benedictine, and Nathalie Wheaton, archivist at Rush University Medical Center Archives.

"Scrapbooking 101" from 1 to 3 p.m. is conducted by Ellen Struck. A pair of scissors, a 12-inch ruler and your imagination are all that are required for this workshop, which will provide students with ideas and do's and don'ts for scrapbooking.

The cost of each session is $25 or $40 for both. The registration deadline is today. For details, contact www.ben.edu/library/news or (630) 829-6050.
