Housing plan up for review

The Round Lake plan commission/zoning board of appeals once again will examine a proposal for 249 townhouses near Route 60 and Fairfield Road. The meeting will start at 7 tonight at Round Lake village hall, 442 N. Cedar Lake Road. Rosemont-based NBG Land Partners wants to build the homes on land that would become part of Round Lake through annexation. Townhome opponents contend destruction of wetlands and increased traffic are among the reasons Round Lake should reject the plan. At least 200 residents in unincorporated Fremont Township and Round Lake's Lakewood Grove subdivision have signed a petition against the townhouses. NBG representatives said the townhouses won't harm the area. After receiving a recommendation from the plan commission/zoning board of appeals, Round Lake village board members will get the final say on the project.

Assessment process talk

Citizens Action Project is holding a one-time What Your Township Assessor Doesn't Want You to Know public informational meeting tonight at 7:30 at the Byron Colby Barn, at Jones Point Road and Route 45 in Grayslake. CAP will tell homeowners what they need to know about property assessments and how they can appeal. Citizens who have successfully appealed their assessments will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice. In July, CAP published a white paper detailing what its members say are serious problems in the Lake County assessment system that result in inaccurate assessments, lack of due process and uneven treatment of similar properties. Supporters of CAP's white paper include state sens. Michael Bond and Susan Garrett.
