Wood Dale man found dead on anchored boat
A Wood Dale man died while sailing in Connecticut Tuesday.
Kenneth D. Close, 47, was found dead on the deck of an anchored sailboat early Tuesday near Old Saybrook, CT, according to the Hartford Courant newspaper.
The crew of a passing ferry saw Close and called emergency officials around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, the Courant reported.
The boat bears the name "Spring Skiing" and "Westport, CT" on the stern, the paper reported. A recent bill of sale was found on board, according to marina employees, who told the Hartford Courant they were unfamiliar with the boat or Close.
Results of Close's autopsy were not available Saturday.
Visitation for Close will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at noon Tuesday at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Road in Grayslake.
Interment will follow in Grant Cemetery in Ingleside.
Close was born in Chicago and raised in Wood Dale. He attended Addison schools and earned an associate's degree from the College of DuPage.
In addition to sailing, Ken enjoyed camping, scuba diving, traveling, reading and fine dining. He also served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
