Conference presents ideas on early childhood education
McHenry County College will host the 19th annual Practical Ideas for the Child's World Conference from 8:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oct. 20 in the MCC Conference Center, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
The conference is intended for anyone interested in early childhood education, including parents, teachers, classroom aides and directors who are working in the early childhood education field.
The conference is approved for CPDUs for teacher certification and continuing education for the Department of Children and Family Services.
The keynote speaker will be musician and author Jim Gill, who will present "Moving Rhymes for Modern Times," from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m.
Gill spent 20 years directing programs in music play for families with children with special needs in the Chicago area. His unique approach of combining word play and movement opportunities into songs was developed through his work. He now presents concerts of music and play to children and families throughout the country.
The event will feature a variety of workshops focusing on practical ideas for the classroom. Attendees can choose two one-hour workshops from a variety of topics such as hands-on math, technology for teachers, second language learners and storytelling.
Exhibits will include state-of-the-art products and services for preschool through third-grade classrooms.
The cost is $30 for the public and early childhood educators, $15 for MCC students before Oct. 20. A $5 fee is added for registrations made on Oct. 20.
