Harper holds video game seminar

Harper College will host a game development seminar at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Harper Professional Center, 650 E. Higgins Road, Suite 9S, Schaumburg.

Game companies are eager to hire people to develop products for next-generation consoles -- but only those with drive, passion, creativity and skill.

The following topics will be covered:

• Xbox 360 Development

• Character Modeling using 3D Studio Max

• The Game Developer Certificate Program

• Beginning and Advanced Game Development Courses

• Game Development Programming Languages

• Industry Trends and Technologies

Course offered for teen drivers

Starting Jan. 1, extensive new restrictions on young drivers recently enacted by the State legislature will go into effect. In order to help residents better understand these new laws, the Wheeling Police Department will host a seminar for teen drivers and their parents at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in Village Hall Council Chambers, 255 W. Dundee Road. Parents and teens with current licenses or those expecting to get a license soon are invited to attend.

Representatives from the Illinois Secretary of State's Office, The Wheeling High School Driver Education Department, insurance companies and the Wheeling Police Department are scheduled to speak. An open forum for questions and answers will also be provided.

Come tour Carmel High School

Carmel Catholic High School invites prospective students and their parents to its 2007 Open House from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Open House guests should enter through the Auditorium Entrance. Carmel is at 1 Carmel Parkway, Mundelein.

This event will give families the opportunity to tour the campus, meet faculty, staff and many current students, and learn more about the Carmel Catholic community. Guided tours will begin at the Auditorium Entrance. After the tour, refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend the Open House.

Explore the history of U.S. immigration

Indian Trails Library will present "America's Heritage: A History of U.S. Immigration," a free exhibit on display from Thursday through Nov. 30. The exhibit provides an overview of American immigration history and laws beginning with the Colonial period. The exhibit also explores European immigration and its impact on American economic prosperity in the latter half of the 1800s.

The story of U.S. immigration law and policy is told through vintage photographs, accompanying text, and instructive timelines. The exhibit is open during library hours but may not be accessible during certain library programs. Call ahead to check program times at (847) 459-4100. Indian Trails Library is at 355 S.
