Basketball
3-on-3 tournament: Prospect High School Athletic Boosters are sponsoring their annual pre-season 3-on-3 basketball tournament Sunday at Prospect High School, 801 W. Kensington Road, Mount Prospect. The tournament is open to boys and girls in fourth through 12th grade. Separate brackets are planned for each age group except for high school juniors and seniors, who will be combined. Other grade levels may also be combined and competition levels added depending on registrations. Efforts will be made to coordinate playing times so participants in other fall programs may participate.

Corsairs tryouts: The Junior Corsairs Basketball Program offers an opportunity for sixth- to eighth-grade boys to compete against various teams from Lake and Cook County. Tryout dates and times for all levels are 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 8, noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 and 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 15. Practices and home games will be held at Carmel High School.

Winter league tryouts: The Net Burners Impact Winter League Basketball tryouts will be held Oct. 18 at Birchwood Park District, 435 W. Illinois St., Palatine, at the following times.
• Fourth- to sixth-grade boys -- 6 to 7:30 p.m.
• Seventh- to eighth-grade boys -- 7:30 to 9 p.m.
• Seventh- to eighth-grade girls -- 6 to 7:30 p.m.
• Fourth- to sixth-grade Girls -- 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Soccer
High school tryouts: Real Chicago FC will hold its 2007-08 High School U15 to U18 tryouts from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 21 at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines. The fields are located behind the football stadium. Players should arrive 30 minutes early to register and bring birth certificate, wallet-size photo, completed IYSA waiver, shin guards, ball and water bottle.
All players will go through a normal training session with the coaching staff, which includes technical drills, conditioning exercises and tactical games. Indoor training begins in November, and the spring season in the NISL runs through June 2008.

Softball
One-day clinic: Fastball USA will hold a one-day softball clinic Nov. 17 for coaches and players at 137 Diversey, Elmhurst. The UIC Flames coaching staff, Tom Grey, Sarah O'Malley and Allison Aguilar, along with UIC Flames players will be on hand. The division I softball program will hold a coaches clinic from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and a players clinic from noon to 3 p.m. The clinic will cover the fundamentals of softball in several skill areas including infield and outfield defensive, plus offensive skills of hitting, bunting and slapping.

Swimming
Swim Meet: The CATS Aquatic Team will hold its annual "CATS Classic" swim meet Saturday and Sunday at Vernon Hills High School, 145 N. Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills. CATS is a community-based swimming program primarily serving student-athletes residing within the boundaries of Community High School District 128.
CATS offers both developmental and competitive tracks for age group athletes (ages 8 and under, 9-10, and 11-12) and Senior level athletes (ages 13-14, 15 and over) under the charter of USA Swimming. CATS recently completed its transition to a parent board owned organization. Previously administered by District 128, CATS is now a not-for-profit entity in partnership with District 128 that utilizes the pool facilities of both Vernon Hills and Libertyville High Schools and is recognized by District 128 as its "feeder" swim program.
CATS achieved Bronze Level recognition by USA Swimming and is sponsored by Speedo. The CATS current coaching staff is under the leadership of full time Age Group Head Coach Jeff Arce, and full time Senior Head Coach Brian Brown. Other returning part time coaches are Pat Costello, Tim Griffin and Nina Arce. New coaches include Abby Thomas and Sarah Cull. CATS also receives coaching support from Kedric Greenwalt, head coach at Vernon Hills High School.

Wrestling
Sharks Registration: The Sharks Wrestling Club, an affiliate of Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation, will hold registration for the fall season from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Oct. 18 at Maine Township East High School, 2601 Dempster St., Park Ridge. These are regular practice nights for the club.
Chad Conley and MIke Conrad, co-founders of the club, will welcome back existing members and get acquainted with newcomers and their parents at a clinic prior to registration. Parents with sons or daughters between 5 and 14 who would like to be part of the organization can call Mike Conrad at (847) 299-7531.
