Carol Stream fire damages townhouses
Carol Stream firefighters spent more than three hours putting out a blaze Thursday that damaged several townhouses on the 400 block of Esselen Court.
No one was injured in the fire, which caused more than $100,000 in damage. The home where the fire started is uninhabitable, and Carol Stream fire officials say several neighboring families were displaced, too.
The Carol Stream Fire Protection District responded to a call at 12:47 p.m. and arrived on the scene three minutes later. With help from Winfield and Bloomingdale fire departments, the blaze was put out.
Officials say the home was fitted with smoke detectors, and the cause of the fire still is under investigation.
