MCC welcomes teens to information night
High school juniors and seniors and their parents are invited to learn about the academic programs offered by McHenry County College at the third annual "MCC Night," an informational open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12.
Visitors can check out the latest innovative programs and meet MCC instructors at more than 35 different program booths located adjacent to in the college's atrium in Building A on campus, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
The college also is holding informative workshops, including "Financing your College Education," "Distance Education Overview," "Classroom Technology (including online classes and cutting edge learning tools)," "Athletics," and "Special Needs program." A special highlight will include demonstrations from MCC's automotive technology department and the Health and Human Performance program, including a fitness challenge.
Plus, new students will have an opportunity to make history as participants in a photo display, "Picture Yourself at MCC," commemorating the 40th incoming class at MCC.
The event will feature free entertainment and refreshments. Music will be performed by the MCC Jazz Ensemble and Frances Mai-Ling, alternative-classical pianist and MCC graduate.
At 6 p.m., stop by MCC Tartan gym to watch the women's home volleyball match between MCC and Moraine Valley Community College. The first 200 new students who apply for admission will receive a free book bag and the college will waive the application fee for admission.
MCC Night is free and open to the public. Students are invited to bring a friend and bring their questions to MCC.

• "Tips on Financing Your College Education." An overview of the financial aid process with Marianne Devenny, director of Enrollment Services, at 6 and 7 p.m. at Bersted Lecture Hall, Room A240. Spanish translation is available.
• "Become Your Own Advocate." Learn the steps to success for students with special needs with Bev Albright, special needs coordinator at the Special Needs Center, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. in Room A257.
• "Be a College Success Story." Get your act together with Deborah Skozek, at 5:30 p.m. at Sage Learning Center Classroom A242.
• "Distance Education at MCC." An overview of the Distance Education options at 6:30 p.m. at MCC Distance Education Department President's Board Room, A217.
• "What Does an Online Course Look Like?" A hands-on workshop about online courses offered at MCC at 7 p.m. at Distance Education Department Professional Development, Room A210.
• "What it takes to become a Successful Student Athlete." MCC Intercollegiate Athletics Programs with Kim "Hoss" Johnson MCC baseball coach at 5:30 p.m. in Athletic Recruiter Room, A352.
• "Technologies Tour of Campus." Visit some MCC classrooms and witness the cutting-edge technology students are using multiple locations, begins in Room A221 6 p.m.
• "Fitness Challenge Demonstration and Competition." Take a fitness challenge or two to win big and learn about the new fitness degrees with Frank Ardito, chair of the Health and Human Performance. It will be held at Department Building A Atrium, across from Student Life Office. Continuous.
• "Automotives Demonstration and Challenge." Learn some automotive basics and test your automotive knowledge in Parking Lot A, Student Services Entrance. This is a continuous class.
