Briefs: Cook library board weighing options

Cook Memorial Public Library District board members could decide next month what new amenities will be offered as part of a planned $12 million facility expansion. A casual cyber cafe where coffee will be available for purchase and formal education support were among the programs and features discussed during the board's meeting Tuesday at the Laschen Center in Vernon Hills. Library Director Dan Armstrong said he'll ask the panel to rank possible amenities before its Oct. 2 meeting. The board will use that meeting, and possibly another session in October, to consider its options. "What we decide is going to inform the buildings that we are going to be building," Armstrong said. "That's why this is a critical component of what we are doing." The board's expansion plan calls for a building addition at the main library in Libertyville and the creation of a new library in Vernon Hills.
