Judson's soccer, volleyball teams all post victories

For the second game in a row, Judson University burnt the nets on the field with a 9-1 CCAC win over the University of St. Francis on homecoming Saturday at Judson.

Recording 2 goals each for the Eagles (8-3-1, 4-0) were Gustavo Oliveira and Leonardo Silva. Silva has now scored 4 goals in the last two games as he had 2 vs. Robert Morris.

Petar Bajic, Tim Balatsoukas (2), Vitor Bravo and Mark Howlett all scored for Judson as well. Freshman Neil Thompson had 5 saves in goal for the Eagles.

Women's soccer

Judson 4, St. Francis 0: Picking up its second shutout of the, Judson (4-5-1, 2-3) dominated the University of St. Francis in a CCAC game Saturday. The win was the first shutout for senior goalie senior Regan Sherwood.

Four different players scored for Judson, all in the first half. Sophomore Christina Thornton (Dundee-Crown) started the scoring right off the back in the 3rd minute of the game when she received an aired out pass from Sarah Schmitz (Larkin) in the box for the score. Just 10 minutes later, freshman Lynsey McFarland netted a goal off a USF save in the box.

Samantha Vestal and Kelly Ranallo finished off the scoring for Judson.

Women's volleyball

Judson d. Grace: In front of a homecoming crowd, Judson University (7-11) took three games from Grace College (6-8) for the win. JU won 30-20, 30-25, 30-24.

Three players had double figures in kills led by senior Kym Gagnon with 15. Senior Erin Bultinck (Larkin) and sophomore Danielle Dull added 13 each. Carly Campioni (Crystal Lake South) had 42 assists and Debra Leganski (Larkin) had 18 digs.

Girls tennis

C-G 3rd at Peoria: Cary-Grove finished third at the Peoria Richwoods invite, scoring 12.5 points. Morton won the meet with 15 points and Peoria Richwoods was second with 14.

Cary-Grove's No. 3 doubles team of Megan Wleklinski-Rachel Kuchta won the championship in their division while the No. 1 doubles team of Susanne Johnson-Courtney Koepke finished second and the Trojans' No. 2 doubles team of Megan Resseguie-Amanda Listak was fourth.

At CL South: Crystal Lake South was 2-1 at is own invite Saturday, beating Palatine 3-2 and Rockford Guilford 4-1 while losing to New Trier 3-2.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jennifer Maruyama-Laura Roesslein finished 3-0 on the day for the Gators (12-2).

Girls cross country

At Antioch: Prairie Ridge finished second with 73 points in the 34th annual Pat Harland Invitational at Fox River Park in Wilmot, Wisc. Larkin was seventh and Jacobs 10th. Benet Academy won the event with 51 points.

Alex Ovington ran a 19:57 to finish sixth for Prairie Ridge while Danielle LeBreck was 12th. Lisa Connelly had an 18th place finish for Jacobs and Britney Whitehead finished 21st for Larkin.

Boys cross country

At Antioch: Crystal Lake South took second place in the 34th annual Pat Harland Invitational at Fox River Park in Wilmot, Wisc., scoring 71 points. Jacobs was third with 80 while Larkin tied for 13th place. Lake Forest won the event with 46 points.

South took the 3-4 spots individually with Josh Uvodien running a 16:20 and Phil Hernandez a 16:32. Kyle Kopinski ran a 16:52 to finish seventh for Jacobs

At Loyola: Prairie Ridge's Billy TenBusch finished 10th at the Lakefront Classic in Chicago, running a time of 16:01. Dundee-Crown's Connor Kustief was 32nd in 16:45.
