Two charged in beating of classmate
A pair of teenage girls are facing felony charges, one of them as an adult, for what police described as a brutal attack Tuesday on a classmate at Jacobs High School.
Thy T. Huynh, 17, of Carpentersville, and a 15-year-old girl were charged with aggravated battery in connection with the assault blamed on a dispute over an ex-boyfriend.
The incident occurred late Tuesday morning in a common area of the high school, police said. According to court documents, Huynh repeatedly struck the victim in the face and head with her fists.
"They just went over and started beating on this girl," Police Chief Russell Laine said Wednesday. "It was out and out brutality."
The victim, Laine said, showed obvious signs of bruising on her face and head and was taken from the school by her mother for medical treatment.
Huynh was taken to the McHenry County jail where she spent the night before appearing in court Wednesday morning. She posted bond and is free pending a Sept. 20 court date.
The 15-year-old girl was released to the custody of her parents and the case against her was referred to the McHenry County state's attorney's office for prosecution in juvenile court.
