Environmental summit planned in DuPage
DuPage County residents concerned about the impact local traffic has on the environment are encouraged to attend the sixth annual DuPage Environmental Summit. The summit will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 in the Krasa Center at Benedictine University in Lisle. The free event will include a mix of presentations on "Greening Our Transportation and Roads" by industry experts. Attendees must register by Tuesday, Jan. 6. Teen police academy taking applications
Enrollment has begun for Carol Stream's Teen Citizen Police Academy, which runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 14 through March 18 at the municipal center, 500 N. Gary Ave. Teens ages 14 to 17 will learn about crime scene processing, DUI enforcement, firearm safety, go on a ride-along and more. Pancake breakfast in Wheaton
The Wheaton VFW will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Jan. 4 at the VFW Post at Papworth and Geneva roads in Wheaton. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. The event includes raffles. For details, call (630) 668-8756.
High school art exhibit at Elmhurst College
Elmhurst College will host its 10th annual High School Art Exhibit from Jan. 7-21 in the Founders Lounge of the college's Frick Center, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst. The show will feature a variety of work by students from 10 high schools, including Addison Trail, Fenton and Willowbrook.
