Work on new Fox Lake library to begin in January

Now that a contractor has been hired, work on a new Fox Lake Public Library will begin in January, officials said today.

A.J. Maggio, a Mount Prospect firm, will be paid nearly $10 million to build the two-story facility, which will be erected next to the current library on East Grand Avenue.

The existing library will be demolished after the new building, which will be constructed in stages, is completed.

Officials should move into the main part of the new library in March 2010 while construction continues. The entire project should be done later that year, head librarian Harry Bork said.

Maggio was one of 11 companies that submitted bids for the project. Its proposal, which the library board approved Monday, was the least expensive, he said.

Maggio's recent public projects in the area include the branch courthouse in Round Lake Beach, the Libertyville High School gymnasium and an expansion of the Lake County Health Department's campus in Waukegan.
