The fruitcake will be flying!

If you are looking to find a use for the fruitcake you received from Grandma yet again this holiday season, the Fruitcake Fling at the Morton Arboretum might be just the right event for you. Guests can bring their own leftover fruitcake from home or use some (from a limited supply) on site. Participants will be tested in categories including how far they fling the cake, how close the cake is to a specified mark and how long two-person teams can toss a fruitcake without dropping it. Winners will be honored during a medal ceremony. The Fruitcake Fling immediately precedes the arboretum's annual Yule Log Hunt.

1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Morton Arboretum, 4100 Route 53, Lisle. New general admission fee for 2009 is $8-$11. Kids are free on Sunday, Jan. 4, with a paid adult admission. Visit mortonarb.org.
