McHenry County AARP: The McHenry County Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Fountains of Crystal Lake on Route 31, one mile north of Route 176. The speaker will be representative of the Social Security office. The annual Christmas Luncheon is set for noon, Dec. 11, at The Fountains, a complete pork roast dinner will be served. Fox Valley Genealogical Society: The Fox Valley Genealogical Society's November meeting is "General Impressions of the Civil War." Robert Girardi, member of the Salt Creek Civil War Roundtable, will present an insightful, informative and entertaining look at some Civil War generals, both prominent and lesser known, as viewed by their peers. Baby Boomer Singles Club: The Baby Boomer Singles Club will hold a singles dance from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Sideouts Bar & Grill, 4018 Roberts Road, Island Lake. The event, for those age 40 and older, will include DJ dancing, cash bar and raffle prizes. Admission is $10 per person. Golden K Kiwanis: The Elgin Golden K Kiwanis will hold its next meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 19, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., Elgin. The program will be, Robert (Bob) Bell, speaking on "A Bailiff's Duties."

SHRM: On Thursday, Nov. 20, Jennifer Redisi will present "Influencing Others and Negotiating." She brings 15 years of Fortune 100 major account and sales management expertise in the retail and technology industries. She is widely respected for listening skills, negotiating style, executive relationships and business acumen. Jennifer will discuss how influencing and negotiating are a part of daily life.
The meeting will be held at Hennessy's Restaurant, 2300 Bushwood Drive, Elgin, just North of I-90 off Randall Road. Registration begins at 11:15 a.m. Lunch is 11:30 a.m. to noon and the program from noon to 1 p.m.

Prairie State LIFE organ club: The Prairie State LIFE organ club will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Music Education Center of America (MECA) in the Huntley Mall. It will be a potluck lunch. Activities will include a Pumpkin Contest with pumpkin foods, decorations or other unique uses for pumpkins.
Elgin Genealogical Society: The next meeting of the Elgin Genealogical Society will be at 7 p.m., Thursday Nov. 20, in the first floor meeting rooms at the Elgin Gail Borden Public Library 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin. President, Becky Higgins, Family Historian and Orphan Train Rider Descendant, will present for the very last time the story of Sara Compton and the Orphan Train Riders. Higgins has been doing genealogical research for more than 15 years. She is past president of the Orphan Train Heritage Society of America and is a descendant of an orphan train rider. Henpeck Unit HCE: The Plato Center Unit of HCE will meet at 1 p.m. Friday Nov. 21, at the Plato Center Village Hall, 10N934 Rippburger Road. The hostesses are Marcella Drendel, Velda Engel, Arlene Reiser and Donna Zierer. The lesson for the day "Landscaping on the Wild Side" will be given by Nancy Haire and Margarete Schmoldt. Terri Lynn orders will be distributed at this meeting. The group will be making reservations for the Christmas Party to be held at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at Sorrento's in Maple Park. The cost is $10.95 for beef, chicken or fish. Elsje Starrenburg will be in charge of this event. Remember to bring two dozen cookies to the December luncheon for donation to various organizations.

Mothers & More: Due to great response, Mothers & More is hosting a holiday sequel to last summer's "What Works for Me" program night. Bring your ideas for what makes a special holiday (samples welcome) and we promise that you will leave with a craft organized by one of our members, as well as recipes, budget tips and so much more. This will be a great way to kick off the season.

South Elgin Lions Club: The South Elgin Lions Club will hold its 34th annual Turkey/Meat Spin Fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 21. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the raffle begins at 7 p.m. at South Elgin Lions Club, 500 Fulton St., South Elgin.
Among the items to be raffled are turkeys, spiral ham, roasts, prime rib, steaks, and many other meat items. Tickets for each spin is $1 are purchased during the evening. One lucky loser will receive a Loser's Basket consisting of everything for a complete Thanksgiving Dinner.
Cash Bonanza tickets will be on sale with the drawing held during the Turkey Spin. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Cash Bonanza has multiple prizes ranging from $25 to $500 to a single winner. Cash Bonanza winners need not be present to win.

Batavia Bachelors and Bachelorettes Square Dancing Club: The club meets at The Free Methodist Church, Third and Walnut streets in St. Charles. Dancing is from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays. On Nov. 14, Mike Richards will call the square dance and Howard Hoffman will cue the round dancing. Kane County Audubon Society: The public is invited to programs and activities of the Kane County Audubon Society.

Signal Hill DAR: Signal Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its Nov 18 meeting at the Barrington Area Library, Room "B", 505 N. Northwest Hwy., Barrington. Business meeting will start at 11:30 a.m. with a social period and refreshments at noon, and the program at 1 p.m. Paige Hoyt, attorney at law, will present
"The Constitution, the Living Document which protects us in Turbulent Times."

Women in Management: Rita Hickman, owner of InSpire Massage in Crystal Lake, will speak at McHenry County Women in Management's November luncheon.
The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Boulder Ridge Country Club, Lake in the Hills. cost to members is $25; nonmembers, $30.
Hickman's presentation will ask "What Could You Do If You Felt Good?" She will encourage women to consider the impact their environment and everyday choices have on their physical and emotional well-being. Hickman draws upon her background in Chinese, Native American and other cultural medicines; nature-based therapy and massage techniques to help clients manage chronic health issues, menopause, grief and everyday tension.

Fideliter Club: The Fideliter Club of Elgin, a nonprofit organization, will hold its 120th annual Charity Ball on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah. The theme of this year's charity ball is "Arabian Nights." The black-tie event will begin with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m., followed by dancing to the music of the Park Avenue Orchestra. The cost is $275 per couple. Fideliter first vice president and this year's ball chair is Kacey Rupczynski of Huntley. The Fideliter Club provides donations to the milk fund at the Elgin Child and Family Resource Center and the developmental and bilingual preschool programs in Elgin Area Unit District U-46. The profits of the annual Charitable Ball are also used to assist other local nonprofit agencies in the Elgin area, including, Elgin Boys and Girls Club, Girl Scouts-Sybaquay Council, Larkin Center, Fox Valley Hospice, Centro de Informacion, Elgin Day Care Center, Senior Services, Little Angels, PADS, Easter Seals DuPage and Fox Valley Region, Community Crisis Center, Literacy Connection, Well Child Center, YWCA, and Glenwood School for Boys.
The Fideliter Club today is composed of 34 women from the greater Elgin area, including St. Charles, Huntley and Algonquin. The 2008-09 officers are: Mickey Brown, president; Kacey Rupczynski, first vice president, Pat Szpekowski, second vice president; Patti Lamp, recording secretary; Sheri Darmon, corresponding secretary; Brenda Morrissy, treasurer; and Angie Young, historian.

Elgin Junior Woman's Club: Elgin Junior Woman's Club Luncheon and Style Show featuring fashion awareness and presentation of the 2008 Outstanding Woman of Elgin Award, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites, Elgin. American Business Women's Association: The Fox Valley Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association is proud to present the program, "Interviewing Skills" lead by Yvonne Graff and Debbie Bearden of The Agency Staffing for the ABWA November meeting. The evening will include networking and the opportunity to brush up on interviewing skills.
