Briefs: Library seeking alums
Naperville Public Library is creating an alumni group of former board members to help current trustees and staff learn more about Naperville's needs and concerns. The alumni also will help the library communicate with the community. The initial meeting will be Dec. 2 in the downtown Nichols Library. Any former library trustees are invited. Pantry asks for soup
Woodridge Community Pantry is asking for cans of soup in a "Souper Food Drive" to help needy residents get through the winter. More than 700 households are fed each month by the pantry, and each month the pantry distributes 2,800 cans of soup, Soup may be dropped off at the pantry, 6809 Hobson Valley Drive, Unit #118, Woodridge. The pantry serves residents in communities that include Woodridge, Lisle, Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Darien and Westmont. For details, call (630) 512-9921.
Diversity business fair
The Quad County African-American Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its 2008 Diversity Business Fair from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Dec. 3 at Hollywood Casino, 49 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora. Featuring an exhibit and trade show area, the goal is to provide minority- and woman-owned businesses with an opportunity to showcase their products and services to purchasing agents from area casinos, businesses, business resource organizations and other minority business owners in the Chicago metro area. Car care clinic slated
Dick Wickerstrom Chevorlet in Roselle is sponsoring a car care clinic at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today at the dealership, 555 E. Irving Park Road. A factory-trained technician will present information on car features along with instructions about maintenance. Wickstrom also will accept donations for residents at Marklund Children's Home, a nonprofit network of services providing full-life experience for infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities.
