Four charged in Naperville armed robbery
Four people, including two minors, are in custody after an attempted armed robbery went awry in Naperville, authorities said Monday.
Police said the incident began about 4:50 p.m. Saturday when they responded to a call at Mill Ponds Apartments, 1327 Modaff Road.
Police said a 19-year-old man told them he was confronted by at least three people as he left his apartment. One of the men displayed a handgun.
The victim told officers the suspects ran when he began dialing 911 on his cell phone. They got in a gold Nissan in the parking lot and fled.
The victim also told police he knew several of the would-be robbers.
Police said they located the car near Bailey Road and Swallow Street and, after a brief pursuit, nabbed the driver at Waxwing Avenue and Terrance Drive.
Three other suspects apparently got out of the car near 75th Street and Clyde Drive during the pursuit and were apprehended at various locations in the area. A fifth suspect still is being sought for questioning.
Police said the handgun they believe was used in the incident was recovered at Bailey Road and Washington Street.
Charged with attempted armed robbery in connection with the incident are Sylvester M. O'Reilly, 20, of 1420 Swallow St., Naperville; Luis A. Martinez, 17, of 114 E. Chicago Ave., Westmont; and two male juveniles ages 13 and 15, police said.
O'Reilly also was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude police.
O'Reilly and Martinez both were taken to DuPage County jail. The juveniles were taken to the DuPage County Youth Home.
