Bloomingdale man killed in West Chicago crash
West Chicago police released the name of the motorist killed Thursday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on North Avenue.
Patrick Pavia, 53, of Bloomingdale, was driving west on North Avenue near Conte Parkway when he stopped to make a left turn into a private driveway.
Then a Chevrolet Express van driven by a 54-year-old West Chicago man hit Pavia's Toyota Camry from behind, pushing both vehicles into eastbound traffic, according to police reports.
The two vehicles struck a Dodge Dakota driven by a 47-year-old West Chicago man and a London Taxi driven by a 27-year-old Elgin man, police said.
Pavia was transported to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield where he was pronounced dead.
A Central DuPage spokeswoman said that four other people injured in the crash were brought to the hospital. Three of them were treated and released. The fourth patient remained at the hospital Friday in fair condition.
The crash closed North Avenue between Powis Road and Route 59 for about five hours on Thursday. No charges have been filed. Police said the accident remains under investigation.
