The Elgin Community College professional nursing program will hold pre-admission exams Thursday, Sept. 11 and 25 in Room 108 of the Student Resource Center (SRC) on the ECC Main Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
Sponsored by the National League for Nursing, the exams are a prerequisite for admission into the program, and are an opportunity for entry into the fall 2009 or spring 2010 or any semester after spring 2010 classes The Sept. 11 and 25 NLN exams are held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Registration is required; visit Web site www.nnlnonlinetesting.org/pax. Registration deadline for the Sept. 11 exam is Sunday, Sept. 7. Registration deadline for the Sept. 25 exam is Sunday, Sept. 21.
The nonrefundable fee for the exam is $85, payable by credit card only. VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are accepted.

Radiography pre-admission: The Elgin Community College radiography program has scheduled a pre-admission exam for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in Room 183 of the Health and Business Technology Center on the ECC Main Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
The three-hour exam is required before entering the radiography program and is a prerequisite for entry into the May 2009 class. The nonrefundable fee for the test is $20, payable by cash, check or charge. Students must register and pay by Thursday, Sept. 10. VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted. Students can visit www.psbtests.com for sample questions.
The demand for radiographers is expected to grow more than 15 percent through 2014, and there is an average of 134 annual openings in the five-county area surrounding ECC.
A career in radiography offers a promising future, including job stability and a competitive salary. Wages are competitive with other health professionals with similar educational backgrounds, $44,090 annually according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. In addition, many employers allow radiographers to work flexible schedules, including part-time or evenings, giving them time to attend to family, children and other personal responsibilities.
