Muddy Paws plans Dog Days event

Muddy Paws Rescue, 20429 N. Rand Road, Palatine, is sponsoring Dog Days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27 and 28. Both days have full schedules, too full to list. Correctional: Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherd dogs will hold the last correctional of the season Saturday, Oct. 11, on the club grounds at Central and Dearlove roads, Glenview. Pre-entry fee is $6, plus $4 for a second entry of the same dog. Send the entry, plus fee payable to the club, to Mary Ann Riecke, 4534 N. Virginia Ave., Chicago, IL 60625. Pumpkin Fest: Four Paws Animal Foundation will hold a family pet contest/bake sale Saturday, Oct. 4, in conjunction with Streamwood Park District's Pumpkin Fest at Hoosier Grove Park on Irving Park Road, east of Route 59. Contact Four Paws at (630) 289-0478 for pet costume category, which will be $1 donation per category. Judging of pets will begin at 1 p.m. with registration with or without pets between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. There will be homemade baked goods for sale. Available also will be the 2009 fundraising calendars. Proceeds will benefit the foundation's adoption and rescue efforts.

All Breed Fun Day: The Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue is sponsoring its All-Breed Lure Coursing Fun Day Sunday, Oct. 12. This is a fundraiser to help care for rescued Cavalier King Charles spaniels while they wait to be adopted. The event will be held at King's Kennels, 238 Saunders Road, Riverwoods. For dogs to join the fun, they must have their current vaccinations. From AKC: According to the American Kennel Club, an updated breed standard for the Chihuahua was approved in August and will become effective Oct. 1. Check with AKC if you need a copy of the revised standard.

• Also, the Treeing Walker Coonhound's advancement to the Miscellaneous Class will become effective Jan. 1, 2009.

Speakers available: Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy has a speakers' bureau with individuals available to present programs about the organization. If desired, the speaker will be accompanied by a registered therapy dog. Contact Susan at (847) 297-3942. There is no fee, however, donations are appreciated.
