I heard that the Huntley Fire Department won't take you to Good Shepherd Hospital any more during an emergency. Why is that?

The Huntley Fire Protection District is limiting its emergency services transportation to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Woodstock's Memorial Medical Center and Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

The department is discontinuing its service to Good Shepherd in Barrington and Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry because both are further distances away, which requires a longer transportation time and takes the department's crews and vehicles out of service for longer period of time.

However, if the department is directed to take patients to Good Shepherd or Northern Illinois Medical Center because the other hospitals cannot take on any more patients, or because a neighboring department has asked for assistance, then they will travel there if necessary.
