Funeral services set for Naperville Marine killed in Afghanistan

Funeral arrangements have been set for a Naperville Marine who was killed overseas.

Lance Cpl. Tony Mihalo, 23, died Aug. 14 in Afghanistan during his third tour of duty.

The 2004 Naperville North High School graduate already had served two tours in Iraq and was awarded a total of four Purple Hearts for his service.

Visitation for Mihalo will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

Mihalo's funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in the auditorium of Naperville North High School, 899 N. Mill St. His family asks that memorials be made in his name to Operation Support Our Troops. For more information, visit www.osotil.org.

Mihalo is one of two servicemen with Naperville ties who recently were killed in action. Army Cpl. James M. Hale, 23, who attended Naperville Central, died Aug. 13 in Baghdad, Iraq.

He was on his second tour of duty in Iraq when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb. Services for Hale were held last week in Maywood.
