Square Dancing Club: The Batavia Bachelors and Bachelorettes Square Dancing Club meets for the summer in the air-conditioned hall at Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 S. Rush St., Roselle. Dancing is from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays. On Aug. 8, Jerry Hill will lead the rounds with Juliann Hill as. On Aug. 22, it will be the 34th anniversary dance with Tom Roper and Angie and Bob Huckeby. The summer dances are casual attire except for the anniversary dance. Single dancers are welcome. Hampshire VFW Auxiliary: Hampshire Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 8043 will meet at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Hampshire Township building, 100 Center St.

At the July 14 meeting, senior vice president Velda Grimes conducted the meeting, with prayer by Chaplain Elaine Setter, Pledge of Allegiance and group singing of "America."

Discussion was held in regard to the successful Auxiliary party honoring the charter members. The three books that were on display at the anniversary party that deceased life member, Lillian (Pete, Peterson) Homuth, World War II army nurse was referenced have been sent to the National VFW Auxiliary Archives Library.

Thank-yous were read from the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and also the serviceman stationed in Iraq for the care package. Donna Proffitt, basket chairwoman, showed the members the miscellaneous articles she has for the patriotic basket she has prepared to be raffled off at Coon Creek Days. Charter members will ride in the Coon Creek Days Parade honoring the 60 years of the Auxiliary charter.

Hospital chairwoman Doris Klock gave a complete report of the miscellaneous articles that she has collected and sent to Elgin Mental Health Center since 2000 to the current time. There has been 9,067 articles, $590 in phone cards, total value of hospital credits of $30,892.96 and a total of 375 volunteer hours.

Hampshire VFW: Hampshire Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8043 will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Hampshire Township building, 100 Center St. New members are welcome.

At the July 14 meeting, Commander Lowell Reiser opened the meeting followed by the prayer by Chaplain Edward Wesemann and a Salute to the Colors. Special guest speaker was Peggy Shannon with her parents. Shannon talked to the members on the recent trip where she had accompanied her father, a World War II veteran, to Washington D.C., compliments of Honor Flight-Chicago, for a very memorable one day trip. The charter was draped for James Tegtman, a past First Commander of the VFW Post 8043.

Appreciation was extended to members for their cooperation on the recent activities. Final plans were made for Coon Creek Days and Burlington Fall Fest for the parade and selling the raffle tickets. Additional help is always appreciated. Members will be receiving a letter and raffle tickets in the near future.

Thank-you notes were read from a recipient of a scholarship, Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and also a serviceman stationed in Iraq for the care package. Women's Leadership Network: Join the Women's Leadership Network organization for a speaker, networking and dinner event. The organization will be meeting at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at Giordano's on Randall Road in Algonquin. The cost of the event is $25. Elgin Golden K Kiwanis: The Elgin Golden K Kiwanis will hold its next meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 13 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., Elgin. The program will be by Sharon Gilbert on "Pet Therapy at Sherman Hospital." For more information, call (847) 741-7176

McHenry County Chapter of AARP: The McHenry County Chapter of AARP will meet at noon Aug. 14 at the Fountains of Crystal Lake on Route 31 one mile north of Route 176, for the annual indoor picnic. Sandwiches, beverages and dessert will be served. The cost is $8 and reservations must be made by calling Lillian at (815) 337-1525. For Chapter information call Glenn at (815) 477-1952.

Groups introduce Russ Moen: The Crystal Lake Express Employment Professionals office and Stateline SHRM are bringing Russ Moen of Express Employment Professionals to McHenry County to discuss "Managing Organizational Change: HR's Greatest Opportunity in the 21st Century."

Moen will address aspects with business leaders, business owners and human resource managers at the Stateline SHRM meeting from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 14 at Family Services, 4100 Veterans Parkway, McHenry. Breakfast is provided.
