Elgin
• An Elgin man was sentenced to a $1,000 fine Thursday for his Aug. 14 misdemeanor battery conviction stemming from an altercation with a 72-year-old man outside the emergency room of Provena St. Joseph Hospital. Donald R. Lershea, 54, of 950 Stonehaven Drive, was ordered to pay the fine over the next nine months for pushing and breaking the right wrist of the Elgin man during the March 30 incident. Authorities said the incident began with a verbal confrontation between Lerschea's wife and the victim's wife in the parking lot of the hospital. The incident was recorded on surveillance tape outside the hospital.
• A 40-year-old Belvidere man was arrested Wednesday on allegations he twice sold cocaine to undercover police. Donald Meyer Jr., 3393 S. Garden Prairie Road, is charged with delivery of controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, police said. Police said the cocaine totaled about 1 gram. Meyer said in court Thursday he is currently on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was unable to post a $15,000 bond and was sent to the Kane County jail. He is scheduled to return to court Sept. 5.
• A routine traffic stop Wednesday led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man who later told a judge he is wanted in Maryland for robbery. Lartavian Darnell Arnold, 1625 Mulberry Lane #8, was stopped by police in the area of Jane Drive and Meyer Street Wednesday for having a cracked windshield. He was charged with two counts of obstruction of justice for giving police false names, police said. Arnold said in court Thursday he is wanted in Harford County, Md. for robbery. He remained in custody at the Kane County jail Thursday unable to post $1,800 bond. s and was taken to the Kane County jail. He has scheduled court dates on Sept. 5 in St. Charles and Sept. 8 in Elgin.

• Police investigating a burning complaint Saturday instead found seven marijuana plants growing in pots at a woman's residence. Susan B. Horton, 56, of 1715 Hickory Lane, was charged with felony possession of marijuana and felony production of marijuana after the discovery, police said. David W. Horton, 44, of the same address, was charged with one count of possession of a firearm without a firearm owners identification card after police said they found two shotguns in the home. Susan Horton posted a $1,000 bond and David Horton posted a $500 bond and both were released from custody.
