Mothers and More: Find all of your children's clothing, toy and equipment needs at the 10th annual Fall KidStuff Resale. It will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 2 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1023 S. McHenry Ave., at McHenry and Dartmoor by Crystal Lake South High School, Crystal Lake.
The sale will include more than 16,000 items from more than 140 sellers of gently used fall and winter children's clothing, toys and equipment, including infant supplies, nursing items, bedding, strollers, beds, etc., at great prices. Proceeds will purchase items for the Crystal Lake and Grafton Township's food pantries plus support Mothers & More of McHenry's activities and other outreach projects. From the Spring 2008 Resale, more than $2,500 was donated to the food pantries.
An admission fee will be collected at the door by the Food Pantries. Each adult shopper should plan on bringing $1 or equivalent food donation for the pantries to gain admission to the sale. For information, call (815) 334-7813 or go to www.mchenrymothers.org.
Kane County Audubon Society: The public is invited to programs and activities of the Kane County Audubon Society.
On Aug. 2, take a field trip at 8 a.m. to Nelson Lake, Dick Young Forest Preserve. On the first Saturday of each month Kane County Audubon invites the public to join them as they view the birds at Nelson Lake. Meet in the parking lot by the silo, which is on the west side of Nelson Lake Road, about three-quarter mile south of Main Street and 2 miles west of Randall Road in Batavia. On Aug. 13, a Night Bird Walk is planned for 6 p.m. Aug. 13 at Johnson Mound Forest Preserve. Arrive at 5:30 p.m., bring a sack meal to eat with members before the walk. To get to Johnson Mound from Batavia. Go west on Fabyan Parkway about 5 miles to Hughes Road Turn right on Hughes Road and go 2.5 miles to park entrance on the right. The group will be viewing shore birds at the sod farms across from the parking lot. For information call Bob Andrini at (630) 584-8386.
Elgin Elks: The Elgin Elks Lodge, in cooperation with the Illinois Elks Crippled Children's Program and Sherman Hospital, will sponsor a free orthopedic diagnostic clinic for children on Aug. 4 at the hospital, 934 Center St., Elgin.
The clinic will be conducted from 2 to 5 p.m. by Dr. Vincent P. Cannestra of Orthopedic and Spine Surgery Associates. He has worked with the Elks program for several years, conducting free clinics four times a year for children, infants to age 21. All diagnostic services, including X-rays, MRIs and other tests are paid for by the Elks program. Financial assistance with treatment for a diagnosed program may be available through the Elks charity.
This clinic is especially for children with severe in-toeing or out-toeing, or who complain of frequently occurring leg, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, back or wrist pain. The clinic also is for children diagnosed with, or suspected of having, back curvature, or who seem very clumsy or fall frequently.
The clinic is by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling the Elks program at (800) 272-0074 from 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays. Family physicians can welcome to refer children to the clinic, but no referral is necessary to obtain an appointment.
Elgin Genealogical Society: The next meeting of the Elgin Genealogical Society will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5. Due to construction at the Elgin Gail Borden Library, EGS August meetings will be at the Elgin Area Historical Museum at 360 Park St. in Elgin. After a short business meeting EGS members will present short biographical talks on their American Revolutionary ancestors for a program entitled "March of the Patriots." Elgin Better Gardens Club: Elgin Better Gardens Club will meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 6 in the home of Marian Asplund. Co-hostess will be Doe Prestidge. The program is on container gardening by the University of Illinois Extension Service. Also, plans will be made to visit the Japanese Gardens in Rockford. Square Dancing Club: The Batavia Bachelors and Bachelorettes Square Dancing Club meets for the summer in the air-conditioned hall at Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 S. Rush St., Roselle. Dancing is from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays. On Aug. 8, Jerry Hill will lead the rounds with Juliann Hill as. On Aug. 22, it will be the 34th anniversary dance with Tom Roper and Angie and Bob Huckeby. The summer dances are casual attire except for the anniversary dance. Single dancers are welcome. Women's Leadership Network: Join the Women's Leadership Network organization for a speaker, networking and dinner event. Elgin Ladies Auxiliary to the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1307: The Elgin Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1307 Auxiliary is involved in many activities this summer. On July 4, the ladies marched and were part of Post 1307's Color Guard in the city of Elgin's Fourth of July Parade. On July 14, the ladies helped with the refreshments for the Pre-Deployment Briefing for the soldiers of the Elgin Armory 1-178 Infantry B Company. The men and women will be deployed the end of August with a Farewell Ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 23. The auxiliary send the their prayers that God will them out of harm's way.
On Aug. 16, the ladies will be supporting a workshop to make cards for the men and women serving our country. The workshop is open to the public. There will be six projects to make and take home. The cards will include a space where they can be personalize to show support and gratitude for the armed forces members' time spent away from home making the world a safer place to live. Servicepeopole are always happy to receive notes and cards from home. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at Post 1307, 1601 Weld Road. Cost is $15. On Aug. 17, the ladies will hold a Steak Fry from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Post 1307, 1601 Weld Road. Steaks will be cooked to order until 4:30 p.m. The public is welcome. Proceeds will go to veterans and other community agencies. Menu is steak, potato, vegetable, salad, roll and coffee and ice tea. Cost is $12 advance sales until Aug. 6. Advance registrations will be entered in a gas card drawing. There will be limited tickets at the door at a cost of $15, first-come first-served. On Aug. 31, The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 1307 will co-sponsor with the Mystic Rose Dancers, "The Shimmy for the Cure." It will be held at the VFW Post 1307, 1601 Weld Road, Elgin. A buffet dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m. The profits of this fundraiser will go to Cancer Aid and Research. The Mystic Rose Dancers are cancer survivors. They give their time so others may have the chance to survive. The show will feature belly dancers, Electric Freeze Dance, hula, and other forms of dance. Plato Center unit: The Plato Center Unit had its annual picnic on June 27 at the Burlington Park. Twenty-seven members and guests attended the outing. The auction garnered more than $125 for the unit's treasury. The Kane County Homemakers has changed its name to Kane County Association for Home and Community Education. This name will now match with its overseer organization.
The annual open house will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 20 at the University of Illinois-Kane County Extension Office, 535 Randall Road, St. Charles. Guest speaker will be Diane Ahrens of Piece-A-Cake Bakery in East Dundee presenting a lesson on "Special Diet Needs." Units will pick up this lesson. Guests are welcome and invite a friend to come with you.

Stateline SHRM: The Crystal Lake Express Employment Professionals office and Stateline SHRM are bringing Russ Moen of Express Employment Professionals to McHenry County to discuss "Managing Organizational Change: HR's Greatest Opportunity in the 21st Century."
Moen will address aspects with business leaders, business owners and human resource managers at the Stateline SHRM meeting from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 14 at Family Services, 4100 Veterans Parkway, McHenry. Breakfast is provided.
