Volunteers welcome: The Yury Shulman's Chess Without Borders Organization is offering a leadership opportunity to students and community members to join the group of chess students to volunteer at the South Elgin Rehabilitation Center, 746 W. Spring St., South Elgin from 10 a.m.-noon June 11. Musicians and all other artists are also welcome to entertain the residents with their talents. Students will teach chess and socialize with residents and deliver puzzles and books donated by Half Price Book Store in Palatine. The Schaumburg Township Republican Organization will man its headquarters to register new voters or voters moving to Schaumburg Township. Bartlett Woman's Club scholarship: July 1 is the deadline to apply for the Bartlett Women's Club re-entry scholarship. Awarded on the basis of need and career goals, the scholarship is for a woman 21 years or older to further her education.
