Native plant sale in Lake Barrington
Citizens for Conservation will hold its 12th annual native plant, shrub and tree sale from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, at its headquarters, 459 W. Hwy. 22, Lake Barrington. A selection of native plants will be available for purchase. Experienced native plant gardeners will be on hand to offer advice on plants for butterfly and rain gardens, privacy screening and shaded woodland areas. For more information, call (847) 382-7283.
Hoffman monthly children's clinic
The Hoffman Estates Department of Health and Human Services will hold its Children's Immunization Clinics on from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Park District's Community Center and Ice Arena, 1685 W. Higgins Road. Patients should use the center's front parking lot and go through the entrance facing Higgins Road, as the clinic room is inside on the left. The clinic has moved from village hall because of construction.
The clinic costs $5 for residents of Hoffman Estates, the village of Schaumburg and Hanover Township, and $7 for others. The clinic is for underinsured children ages two months to 18, and shot records are required. Payment is with cash, check or AllKids. Barrington senior culinary tour
The Barrington Area Council on Aging and the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council are sponsoring "The Great Tastes of Chicago," a tour of the city's culinary specialties. The May 9 tour will feature stops in several different neighborhoods, where participants can enjoy spices, chocolate and bakery goods. Lunch at a culinary school will be included. A bus will leave the Barrington Park District, 235 Lions Drive, at 8:30 a.m. and return around 5 p.m. Cost of the trip is $82. For more information, call Linda Avellon at (847) 852-3892.
Library to move to temporary location
The Poplar Creek Public Library has chosen a temporary site in a small mall, 490 S. Bartlett Road, Streamwood to use while the main library is being expanded.
The main library, 1405 S. Park Ave., Streamwood, will close May 12. The temporary site will open at an unspecified time in June.
Throughout the project, however, Poplar Creek's Sonya Crawshaw Branch at 4300 Audrey Lane in Hoffman Estates will remain open.
Palatine police to sponsor auction
The village of Palatine will hold its annual bicycle and property auction at 10 a.m. May 17, near the northwest corner of the Community Center/Police Station, 200 E. Wood St., Palatine. All items will be displayed for viewing from 9:30-10 a.m. with the auction beginning at 10 a.m. Items will be sold individually and in lots. Purchased items must be removed from the premises on the day of the auction. Items must be paid for in full at the time of purchase.
