4 suspects held in home invasions

Four men authorities say they believe are behind a string of violent home invasions in the Northwest suburbs were being held in Cook County jail Friday on six- and seven-figure bonds.

Two Hanover Park men appeared in court Friday in Rolling Meadows, where Judge Kay Hanlon set bond at $1 million for Daniel Suddoth, 40, and $800,000 for roommate Steven Anderson, 41.

Trevor Russell, 17, of Elgin, and Mark Sharks, 40, of Streamwood, also face charges of home invasion and burglary. Bond was set earlier in the week at $350,000 for Sharks and $1.25 million for Russell.

In addition to possible links to recent home invasions and burglaries in Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Hanover Park and Streamwood, they're accused of breaking into an Elk Grove Village home May 9 on the 1500 block of Stafford Circle.

At 10:40 a.m., authorities said the four men entered the bedroom of a 51-year-old man, tied his hands and legs, put a blanket over his head and beat him for 15 minutes.

The bloodied victim was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center with eight broken ribs, a broken nose, two black eyes and severe bruising. He has since been released, authorities said.

The suspects are accused of stealing electronics from the home and fleeing in a blue Ford Expedition.

When police arrested Russell Monday, they say he admitted to kicking in the door and acting as a lookout while the others beat and robbed the victim.

Sharks was also arrested Monday and told authorities he entered the home after the others were inside. In a written statement, he said he heard the victim scream but didn't participate in the beating.

A neighbor told police she was visited by two men 10 minutes prior to the robbery and positively identified Russell in a photo lineup.

Anderson, arrested on Wednesday by Hanover Park police, also told authorities he wasn't involved in the Elk Grove Village. Suddoth, arrested Thursday by Streamwood police, also denied involvement, authorities said.

Some or all of the suspects have also been charged with two earlier home invasions and multiple burglaries.

At noon on April 23, police say a Streamwood man was listening to music at his home on the 700 block of Russet Lane when three men forced their way in and demanded money and drugs. They allegedly stole $200 and punched the victim, who later pegged Suddoth as the one who beat him, authorities said.

The next afternoon, officials said a man in his garage on the 1900 block of Keystone Place in Schaumburg was bound, choked and struck with a crowbar-type object while his house was burglarized. The victim identified Suddoth as one of the men involved, court records show.

The four men will remain in custody until a June 11 indictment hearing unless they post 10 percent of bail. They're likely to face additional charges, prosecutors said.
