Tibetan leader speaks in Wheaton

Gelek Rimpoche, founder and spiritual director of Jewel Heart Tibetan Buddhist Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., will visit Wheaton this week as part of a lecture tour following the teachings of the Dalai Lama. He will speak about "Engaging Wisdom and Compassion" at 7 p.m. at the Theosophical Society, 1926 N. Main St., Wheaton. Admission is free. For details, visit jewelheart.org.

Bloomingdale club plans a plant sale

The Bloomingdale Garden Club plans its flower and perennial plant sale May 16-18 at the Bloomingdale village hall/library complex, 201 S. Bloomingdale Road. Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

The sale features full flats, premium hanging baskets, geraniums in all hues, specialty and accent plants delivered from a Michigan grower.

Flats and premium baskets are $13. Perennial plants come from members' gardens and are priced according to size.

Volunteers needed to clean up park

The Carol Stream Park District is seeking volunteers to spruce up KidsWorld Playground from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Armstrong Park on Idaho Street, south of Elk Trail. The event is also a 10-year reunion and volunteer work day for the playground and includes lunch and a ceremony. Volunteers are asked to call (630) 784-6100.

Buy plants, flowers at Naperville North

Naperville North High School's agricultural program holds its annual greenhouse sale from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the school, 899 N. Mill St. A variety of plants, flowers and vegetables will be available.
