Construction on Elgin's Sam's Club, Wal-Mart to start this summer
Apparently it's not only the super Wal-Mart some of you are waiting for along Randall Road in Elgin.
After my last column about the status of the Wal-Mart that's expected to be under construction at Randall and Bowes Road some time this summer, I heard from many, many of you.
You wanted to know too, if and when Sam's Club would be joining Wal-Mart at the intersection.
The answer is yes. It's coming too.
Ray Moller, economic development director for the City of Elgin, said the last he heard from the developers, Sam's Club also was in the works.
However, he said, it is the company's policy that they begin work on the supercenter first, and then start on the Sam's Club.
You should see progress on the site soon, as the project is moving forward, passing hurdles with the Kane County Department of Transportation over improving the intersection for motorists.
Once it's under way, the Wal-Mart should take about 13 months to complete.
Both stores are expected to be open some time next year.
Name game: The inside changed first, with the charming cows that filled the restaurant taking a leave of absence.
Now, the exterior has changed too.
The popular breakfast and lunch restaurant along Randall Road in Lake in the Hills that used to be called Reese's now goes by the name of Burnt Toast.
It now shares the name with the restaurant owners' other restaurant, Burnt Toast, to the south along Randall in South Elgin.
The food though is still delicious, and the regulars still are coming each morning for their usuals.
Bedroom makeover: The Sleep Number by Select Comfort store in Algonquin Commons along Randall Road is offering you a chance to win your dream bedroom.
The chain is holding a drawing for a $15,000 bedroom makeover. Stop in for details.
