Raider 5k begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday
Glenbard South High School Boosters will hold the fifth annual Raider 5K run and walk at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Glenbard South, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn. Participants should meet at the northwest entrance of the football stadium with registration from 7 to 8:15 a.m. Awards will be given for each age category. Race day registration is $20. Proceeds benefit programs at the high school. Registration and pledge forms are available online at www.glenbardsouthhs.org.
Ground-breaking for Hubble Sunday
Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 will hold its ground-breaking ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday. No parking will be available at the construction site, so guests are asked to meet from 1:30 to 1:40 p.m. at Wheaton Warrenville South High School, 1920 S. Wiesbrook Road, Wheaton, for a shuttle to the site. A reception will follow the ceremony at the high school. Construction is expected to end in summer 2009, offering a facility for 1,087 students. Hawthorne School plans rummage sale
Hawthorne Elementary School PTA will hold its first rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the school, 334 E. Wakeman Ave., Wheaton. Items may be donated from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. today including toys, gently used clothing, electronics, small furniture, sports equipment and books.
