Camps

ScotStars camps: The McHenry County College Scots' Department of Athletics will conduct ScotStars-2008 youth baseball, basketball, soccer and softball summer camps.

Most camps are for third- through ninth-graders, with the general skills soccer camp also accommodating those entering first and second grade.

ScotStars camps are coordinated by MCC staff, Tom Kruse (baseball), Steve Ryan (basketball), Karl Smith (soccer) and Leon Palatas (softball).

Camp dates are: boys baseball (June 16-19), boys' and girls' basketball (June 23-26), boys' and girls' soccer (July 21-24), boys' and girls' soccer striker and goalkeeper (July 28-31) and girls' softball (July 28-31).

Basketball camps will be held in the newly renovated McHenry County College Scots gymnasium, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake, just north of Route 176.

Soccer, baseball and softball camps will be held outdoors at the MCC ScotLand Yard multi-sports complex. Participants will receive an MCC ScotStars camp T-shirt, group photo and certificate of completion, all of which are included in the registration fee. Participants will be grouped by gender, age and/or ability whenever feasible.

Cheerleading

Tryouts: A new All Star Competition Cheerleading Team, X Plosion All Stars, will hold its second-year tryouts from 4 to 6 p.m. June 1 and 29 at Spring Hill Gymnastics, 1016 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin. There is a $5 non-refundable fee.

X Plosion All Stars compete in local and national competitions, with some travel.

Tryouts require jumps, stunts and tumbling skills. Participants will be grouped according to their age as of May 31: seniors, 15 to 18, may include 14-year-old with required skills and juniors, age 14 and younger. For details, call (847) 741-1770, Ext. 3 or go online at www.xplosioncheer.org.

Soccer

TCSA Travel: The Tri-Cities Soccer Association Travel soccer club is holding open tryouts for the traveling teams.

Find your age group and time to determine when you should attend. Arrive 30 minutes before the tryout time with completed travel application, soccer ball, shoes and water bottle. Check the Web site for details, www.tcsa.net.

Boys tryouts are June 2 and 4: U8-U11, 4:30 to 6 p.m.; U12-U14, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Senior Boys, U15-U19, tryouts are from 1 to 3 p.m. June 7.

Girls Tryouts are June 3 and 5: U8-U11, 4:30 to 6 p.m. and U12-U14, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
