Dedication in Wauconda

Wauconda will dedicate the village's water reclamation plant expansion at 10 a.m. Saturday as part of the second annual public works open house. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the public works facility, 302 Slocum Lake Road. The expansion took roughly three years to complete. It was needed to handle the increased flow from new development in the village in the past five years, Mayor Sal Saccomanno said. The new portion of the plant uses an activated sludge process to treat the community's wastewater. It uses microorganisms to break down waste in the incoming waste water stream without use of chemicals. Within 24 hours, the incoming water is treated and returned to the environment clean and virtually free of pollutants, officials said. Visitors may tour the water reclamation facility, ask questions and view equipment used to provide services ranging from water reclamation to streets, trees and public drinking water.
