Death a suspected suicide
Authorities said a man found dead near train tracks in Barrington Thursday likely died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Barrington Deputy Police Chief Jerry Libit said Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway maintenance workers found the body of a 60-year-old man on the side of the tracks just east of Route 59 at about 10:25 a.m. The body was found with one gunshot wound to the head. Libit said all indications are that it was a suicide. A final determination, however, will be made by the Lake County coroner. "It does not appear that he was hit by the train," Libit said. This is the second incident along the EJ&E lines in the area this week. Sunday, a 14-year boy was killed when he was struck by a train in the vicinity of Hoffman Estates Boulevard at the EJ&E tracks near Shoe Factory Road.
