Palatine police to hold bike auction

The village of Palatine will hold its annual bicycle and property auction at 10 a.m. Saturday, near the northwest corner of the Community Center/Police station, 200 E. Wood St., Palatine. Items will be displayed for viewing from 9:30 to 10 a.m. with the auction beginning promptly at 10 a.m. Items will be sold individually and in lots. Purchased items must be removed from the premises on the day of the auction. Items must be paid in full at the time of purchase. Streamwood police get extra vigilant

The Streamwood Police Department will conduct a "Click It or Ticket" seat belt campaign along the Route 59 corridor every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning Monday through June 1. Officers will enforce all seat belt laws along with other traffic safety laws including speeding, red light violations and improper lane usage.

Flag Day picnic set in Schaumburg

The villages of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg will hold the annual Flag Day picnic, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13 at Schaumburg village hall, 101 Schaumburg Court.

Admission costs $3. The program includes a speech by Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn. a flag-hoisting ceremony, a color guard, music, food and bingo. Buy tickets by calling (847) 524-7496 before May 31. Sponsored by the villages of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg, Schaumburg Township, the Schaumburg Township District Library, the Schaumburg Park District, Community Nutrition Network, Preferred Meal Systems, Harris Bank, Friendship Village and Rotary Club.

Class to share tips on healthy living

The Barrington Area Council on Aging, in partnership with Age Options and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, is offering "Take Charge of Your Health!" a weekly health education class for adults 60 and older. The six-week program, which starts June 6 and runs through July 18, will meet from 10 a.m. to noon in the Community Health Room at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. The program is based on Stanford University's "Chronic Disease Self-Management Program" which has proved effective in improving the health outcomes of participants. St. Alexius to host senior resource fair

The Northwest Suburban Senior Coalition will sponsoring a senior resource fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 13 at St. Alexius Medical Center, 1555 N. Barrington Road, Hoffman Estates, at the fourth floor conference center. Visit more than 40 vendors who specialize in services available to seniors. There will be health screenings courtesy of St. Alexius and raffle drawings and refreshments provided by Sam's Club. Call (847) 507-2189.
