Revisit the good old days Sunday
The Friends of Centerville School and members of the Dundee Township Historical Society invite the public to attend the annual old fashioned ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Randall Oaks Park on Randall Road north of Route 72. Visitors can turn the crank and make ice cream the way grandma did.
The one room school house will be open and the "school marm" will be available to teach class as in the days of old.
Members of the Fox Valley Model T Club will have vintage cars on display. There is no charge. For more information call (847) 428-6996.
Help make Vets picnic a success
AmVets Post 245 of Cary is hosting its 21st annual picnic for hospitalized veterans in memory of Chris Chigas.
Veterans from four different VA hospitals will be attending. Approximately 500 veterans from Illinois and Wisconsin will be bused to Lions Park, 102 Beachway in Fox River Grove along the Fox River near Route 14 bridge at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11. There will be food, soda, music, bingo, pontoon boat rides, games and camaraderie.
This is the largest picnic held in Illinois for veterans. AmVets are looking for volunteers who are willing to help out on the day of the event, plus monetary donations to cover the cost of food and other expenses.

Travel soccer club to hold tryouts
TCSA Travel soccer club is holding open tryouts for the traveling teams.
Find your age group and time below to determine when you should attend. Arrive 30 minutes before the tryout time with your completed travel application, soccer ball, shoes and water bottle.

Boys tryouts are Monday and Wednesday: U8-U11, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.; U12-U14, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Senior Boys, U15-U19, tryouts are from 1 to 3 p.m. June 7.
Girls Tryouts are June 3 and 5: U8-U11, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and U12-U14, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
