Youth perform 'Oliver!' for seniors

Members of Noble Fool Theatricals Youth Ensemble gave a free performance of selected songs from their recent production of "Oliver!" April 20 for residents at Victory Centre of Bartlett.

The Youth Ensemble's performance took place on the main stage at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles. They wanted to expand their performance out into the community, as part of the troupe's mission is enriching the lives of community members through theater.

"We had a great time doing the show, and we wanted to give something back to the community that has been so supportive. We thought performing at the Pathway Senior Living Center would be a great way to do that," said Tracy Whiteside, educational manager at Noble Fool and director of "Oliver!"

"Performing for the seniors was such an absolute joy. Just seeing them smile and enjoy our performance made it hard for me to stay in my mean Widow Corney character. It was a great experience that I'll never forget," said 15-year-old Winfield resident and Youth Ensemble member Nadia Pelletier.

Cast members in attendance at the event included Katie Bertress of Batavia; Maddy Donatelli, Rebecca Roy and Jenna Soldati of Geneva; Michael Fairbanks of St. Charles; Gabriel Harder of Elgin; Stirling Joyner of Plano; Rebecca Lawler of Carol Stream; Paolo Mazza of West Chicago; Nadia Pelletier of Winfield; Kelsey Pettrone of LaGrange and Leah Richards of Sugar Grove.

"The mini-show was fabulous, with excellent vocal and dramatic performances by all the children. The kids were fun, confident and did a great job. It made our residents happy, entertained and wanting more," said Rita Lopienski, regional director of Community Life. "I also think it's great for the kids to give to the community, in particular senior citizens who otherwise might not get out to see this kind of show. It was well received."

The NFT Youth Ensemble is an exclusive, audition-only program. Students are responsible for memorizing lines, music and choreography. They learn the craft of theater through the process of preparing for live performances.
