Music festival on tap

Elgin High School will host the Fox Valley Music Festival at 7:30 p.m. today at 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin. The public festival features U-46 high school choir students, along with students from Dundee to Aurora. The participating high school students are nominated by their school choral, orchestra and band directors.

Dist. 300 launches survey

Community Unit District 300 has launched an online survey to solicit feedback on its Web site, monthly newsletter and annual report. The survey was prompted in part by the district's 2006-07 Strategic Plan, in which residents cited the need for better communication. The five-minute survey will help District 300 redesign its Web site. The district plans to launch a redesigned Web site in the summer. You can take the survey through the end of May at www.d300.org.

Chesak-Martin PTA meets

The Chesak-Martin PTA is hosting two planning sessions to solicit ideas on how to help students and recruit more parents. The sessions will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at Chesak Elementary School, 10910 Reed Road, Lake in the Hills. School board member Kim Skaja will lead the Tuesday session, and former board member Rosemary Herringer will lead the Wednesday session. Call (815) 923-8810.

Sleepy Hollow marks 50th

To kick off its 50th anniversary celebrations, Sleepy Hollow will hold an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Village Hall, 1 Thorobred Lane. The village was incorporated on April 29, 1958, and celebrations are planned throughout the year. The village also is selling native trees to promote the anniversary as well as the environment. Trees are available for pick up and purchase Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at village hall, 1 Thorobred Lane. About 40 trees are still available including red maple, autumn blaze maple, burr oak, serviceberry, river birch, red bud and American hornbeam.
