Briefs: Man guilty of molestation

A 46-year-old McHenry man was sentenced to three years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to a reduced charge alleging he molested a 7-year-old girl last year. Ramiro Garcia admitted guilt to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse stemming from allegations he fondled the girl on April 15, 2007, in McHenry. Garcia initially faced three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, Class X felonies punishable by six to 30 years in prison. But McHenry County prosecutors said Tuesday that after reviewing evidence against Garcia, the aggravated criminal sexual abuse allegation was more appropriate and provable.

Teen gets private attorney

An Elgin teenager accused of stabbing his teacher has a private attorney to represent him on unrelated sex assault charges. Angel Facio, 16, is set to appear in court again April 25 on allegations he assaulted an 8-year-old girl last August, months before his arrest after a Jan. 16 knife attack at Elgin High School. Facio was set to be arraigned in Kane County on the charges Tuesday, but the case was continued because his new lawyer, Nils Von Kuedell, had not been able to review the case file. Prosecutors also are set to argue for a sample of Facio's DNA. The teen is held in Chicago's juvenile detention facility on the stabbing charges and is set to be in a Cook County court on a move to try him as an adult.
