No one able to hit Buchholz
Barrington baseball coach Jim Hawrysko wasn't going to buck the odds even though sophomore right-hander Sean Buchholz was throwing a no-hitter through 6 innings.
So Hawrysko took Buchholz out after 90 pitches and let Tim Conroy finish off the no-hitter and the Broncos' 4-0 victory over visiting Notre Dame on Wednesday.
Buchholz (2-0) had 9 strikeouts and issued 3 walks and hit a batter. Hawrysko said Buchholz had a nice slider to keep hitters off-balance with a good fastball.
"He looked the smoothest I've seen him since last spring," Hawrysko said. "He was really smooth and had great composure as usual.
"The bottom line is we have plenty of games left. There's no reason to push the envelope."
Barrington (4-0) got 3 runs in the first and made the most of 4 hits. Conroy had two and an RBI double and Jack Golek had an RBI double.
Schaumburg 10, Glenbrook S. 2: Schaumburg finally got to showcase its offensive firepower as George Kalousek led the way with a homer, double and 3 RBI. Steve Mahler (2 RBI), Dave Compitello (RBI) and Dan Launhardt had 2 hits apiece.
Kyle Pusateri allowed 1 run and 2 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk in 4 innings for the victory.
Maine West 15, Hoffman 2: Sean Willett went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI as Maine West rolled in its nonconference opener. Steve Zimmerman and Kane Hernandez each went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in support of winner James Ward.
D-C 3, Prospect 1: Alex Lazarz had 7 strikeouts in the nonconference loss for Prospect (2-2).
Leyden 10, Proviso West 0: Joe Natale went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Matt Soch also had 2 RBI to help Leyden win its opener in the West Suburban crossover. Jonathan Weaver and reliever combined on a 1-hitter.
