Nature Fair and Native Plant Sale: The Backyards for Nature Fair and Native Plant Sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

Turn the back yard into an ecologically friendly haven for birds, butterflies and beneficial wildlife, while learning all types of gardening tips.

The Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration features activities for the entire family. Children can build their own birdhouse, participate in a planting or take in a puppet show. Adults can learn about natural pesticides, soil improvement tips, and planting and landscaping techniques.

"Native plants offer beauty, hardiness and versatility and also allow us to make a positive impact on soil, water and air quality," said Donna Johnson, native plant sale coordinator for the Schaumburg Community Garden Club.

Adventure Night: Drop the kids off at Schaumburg Tennis Plus May 9 for Adventure Night, held at Schaumburg Tennis Plus, 1416 N. Payne Road.

Head out to dinner or a movie while STP's trained staff provides the entertainment for kids. A variety of active group games and sports are available, followed by pizza and beverages in the nursery.

Adventure Night is for ages 5 to 11. Admission is $18 per child ($26 nonresident). Each additional child is $15. For more information, visit parkfun.com or call (847) 884-0678.

Women's golf clinics: Get a head start on the golf season and improve performance with the Short Game Clinic, held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. May 13 at the Schaumburg Golf Club, 401 N. Roselle Road.

The focus will be on the basics of putting and chipping. The clinic is for ages 18 and up, and taught by LPGA Pro Peggy Ellsworth. The fee is $20.

Preschool Fun Fair: The Schaumburg Park District Preschool Fun Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 16 at the Pat Shephard Center, 421 N. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg.

Featured will be games, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting and more. Picnic food will be available for an additional cost.

Preregistration is $7 per child, and available for current preschool students through their class. Registration is $10 per child the day of the event.

Fahrrad Tour Von Schaumburg Bike Ride and Picnic: The Fahrrad Tour Von Schaumburg Bike Ride and Picnic takes place May 18, with the tour kicking off at noon May 18 at Blackwell Elementary School, 345 N. Walnut Lane. The ride ends at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court.

Celebrate Schaumburg's German heritage with a one-hour, police-guided tour of its bikeways. At the end of the ride, enjoy free food and drinks at an outdoor barbecue while listening to the Beatles tribute band British Export. A limited supply of T-shirts will be available for $12.

Bus transportation for riders and their bikes will be provided from the Municipal Center back to Blackwell Elementary School.
