Bartlett High

• On Wednesday through Saturday, the musical version of "Beauty and the Beast" will be presented at 7 p.m. at Bartlett High School, 701 Schick Road. Ticket prices are $12 per adult, $10 per senior citizen, and $7 per student. On Sunday, there will be a 2 p.m. matinee performance of "Beauty and the Beast."

Larkin High

• On Friday and Saturday, "The Pirates of Penzance" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Tickets are $8 per person and can be purchased in the school treasurer's office for reserved seating. Tickets also will be available at the door on the evening of the performances.

Streamwood High

• On Tuesday during school hours, 185 Streamwood High School honor roll students will take a cruise on Lake Michigan on the boat Spirit of Chicago. They will enjoy lunch, prizes and dancing to the sounds provided by a DJ.

• Also on Tuesday, the Middle School Choral Festival will be held at 7 p.m. at Streamwood High School, 701 W. Schaumburg Road, Streamwood. The concert will feature an eighth-grade honors choir consisting of 150 select vocal students representing the eight middle schools in the district. In addition, the seventh-grade combined choir will perform. This group includes about 250 seventh-grade students from throughout the district. Students will be bused to Streamwood High for an afternoon of instruction. They will rehearse under the tutelage of guest conductor Jay Kellner. The day will culminate with a concert scheduled for 7 p.m. There is no admission for this event.

Ellis Middle

• On Thursday, an ice cream social for all third-quarter honor roll students will be held at 3 p.m. in the Ellis Middle School cafeteria, 225 S. Liberty St., Elgin.

Kenyon Woods Middle

• On Wednesday, the seventh-graders will present a Heritage Fair from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Kenyon Woods Middle School commons, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin.

Tefft Middle

• On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, the play "Once Upon a Mattress" will be presented at 7 p.m. at Tefft Middle School, 1100 Shirley Ave., Streamwood. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Centennial

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 9 a.m. at Centennial Elementary School, 234 E. Stearns Road, Bartlett.

Century Oaks

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Century Oaks Elementary School, 1235 Braeburn Drive, Elgin.

Channing

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Channing Elementary School, 63 S. Channing St., Elgin.

Creekside

• On Monday, students at Creekside Elementary School who participated in the Ozzie Cougar Reading Program will attend the Kane County Cougars game.

• On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Creekside Elementary School, 655 N. Airlite St., Elgin.

Glenbrook

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Glenbrook Elementary School, 315 Garden Circle, Streamwood.

Harriet Gifford

• On Wednesday, Miss Illinois will speak at the monthly morning meeting at Harriet Gifford Elementary School.

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Harriet Gifford Elementary School, 240 S. Clifton Ave., Elgin.

• On Saturday, a flea market will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the gym. Light refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

Hawk Hollow

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Hawk Hollow Elementary School, 235 Jacaranda Drive, Bartlett.

Heritage

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 9 a.m. at Heritage Elementary School, 507 Arnold Ave., Streamwood.

Highland

• On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Highland Elementary School, 2250 W. Highland Ave., Elgin.

• On Friday, Family Bingo Night will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gym.

• On Thursday, second-graders at Hillcrest Elementary School will attend a performance of "Pirates of Penzance" at Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin.

• On Tuesday, the sixth-graders at Laurel Hill Elementary School in Hanover Park will visit Tefft Middle School to learn what to expect next school year.

Liberty

• On Monday, the fifth- and sixth-grade students at Liberty Elementary School in Bartlett will take a field trip to the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights to see the play "The Giver."

• On Friday, Fathers' Night will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the gym, 121 Naperville Road in Bartlett. Students and their fathers get a chance to spend time together and will participate in fun activities.

Lincoln

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation for parents of bilingual students will be held at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School, 1650 Maureen Drive in Hoffman Estates.

• On Thursday, a Spring Sing will be presented at Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive. The theme of the concert is "Every Day is Earth Day." Students in grades K-3 will perform at 6:30 p.m.; students in grades 4-6 will perform at 7:30 p.m.

Lords Park

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Lords Park Elementary School, 323 Waverly Drive in Elgin. On Thursday, there will be a second session at 8:30 a.m.

McKinley

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at McKinley Elementary School, 258 Lovell St., Elgin.

Ontarioville

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 8:45 a.m. at Ontarioville Elementary School, 2100 Elm Ave., Hanover Park.

Parkwood

• On Tuesday, the fifth-grade parents will attend a program from the Robert Crown Health Center called "Life Begins." The program begins at 6:30 p.m. at Wayne Elementary School, 5N443 School St. in Wayne.

Willard

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Willard Elementary School, 370 W. Spring St., South Elgin.

In other news

• On April 17, plan to listen to some great fiddle music prepared by the U-46 middle school orchestras at 7 p.m. Rather than the traditional middle-school orchestra concert, U-46 will be hosting a "Fiddling Festival" at Eastview Middle School under the direction of guest artist Bob Phillips, a nationally recognized expert in fiddling and improvisation. The concert will showcase new concepts students have learned, including a collaborative finale. Clap along or join in the fun. Community players of stringed instruments (violins, guitars, mandolins and banjos) are invited to participate by attending a rehearsal at 6 p.m. prior to the concert.

• A workshop has been organized for the community by the environmental science students of Elgin High School with the goal of providing the community with accurate information and best practices for water protection and conservation. Each team of student presenters has worked with mentors who are natural resource professionals and engineers. The workshop is April 19 at Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin. Workshops are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with field trips at 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. This event is open to all residents of northeastern Illinois, and will feature presentations and activities for all age groups.
