Mediacom to open its new office in Elburn
Keeping up with all the new Internet and cable TV services may be difficult for those who aren't part of the high-tech generation, but it just got easier for Elburn area residents.
Mediacom Communications, which has been in Elburn for seven years, has opened a new customer service office at 808 E. North St. The office is open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Stop in at the open house Monday and become more familiar with the services it offers. Village and chamber of commerce leaders will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m., and refreshments and prize drawings will be offered throughout the day.
Mediacom offers high-speed Internet access and cable television with all the digital features, including high-definition and interactive, as well as telephone service through fiber optic telecommunication lines.
"Elburn is a growing area and we wanted to offer face-to-face customer service, especially since there are so many tools available for customers today," said Mediacom spokesperson Phyllis Peters.
"Parents may want to know how to establish parental controls on the computer, for example," she said. "Also, customers can upgrade their old equipment to get the newest models. There is no extra cost to swap equipment."
Customers can also get hands-on demonstrations of equipment and service features, pay bills and receive updated listings of channel lineups.
Mediacom Communications is the nation's eighth largest cable television company and is one of the leading cable operators focused on serving the smaller cities and towns in the United States.
Mediacom provides services to consumers in six Kane County communities and in many communities in La Salle, DeKalb, Boone and McHenry counties.
Another financial award
For the seventh year in a row, the village of Sugar Grove has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award for its comprehensive annual financial report.
This award is given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Finance Director Justin VanVooren accepted the award on behalf of the village.
"The achievement of this award would not have been possible without the support of the village president, (Sean Michels) board of trustees and the village administrator (Brent Eichelberger) and their dedication to setting policies with high principles for management of village finances," VanVooren said in a prepared statement.
Competition for the award is judged by an impartial panel and must meet several standards, including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure."
Chamber to meet
The Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce meets at noon Thursday at the fire department, 25 S. Municipal Drive. Village President Sean Michels will report on city developments. Lunch is $15.
