G.I. Joe Collectors' Club to meet at high school
The G.I. Joe Collectors' Club Chicago Division is holding its second annual show, the Chicago G.I. Joe and Action Figure Show 2008, on Sunday at Jacobs High School, 2601 Bunker Hill Drive, Algonquin.
Proceeds from the show will be donated to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.
The show will feature all types of G.I. Joe action figures from 1964 to the present as well as Star Wars, superhero, movie, TV and other collectible figures. Collectors ages 9 through 90 can buy, sell and trade action figures in a huge dealer's room.
Customized figures, vehicles and dioramas will be on display and those attending can enter their own for judging. There will also be presentations and videos on G.I. Joe and action figure collecting.
Show hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Early bird admissions will be $6 for all ages from 8 to 9 a.m. Admission after 9 a.m. will be $4 for adults and kids over age 10; kids age 10 and under will be free.
All active military personnel displaying their ID will be admitted free.
The G.I. Joe Collectors' Club Chicago Division was formed in September 1998 and is an official local chapter of the national G.I. Joe Collectors' Club www.gijoeclub.com.
The Chicago GIJCC meets regularly most months at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, at Schaumburg Road. Members share their customizing techniques, collecting experiences and socialize at meetings along the lines of model railroading, miniatures and other similar hobby clubs.
Over the past 10 years, the Chicago GIJCC has been featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles, Web sites, on television, including WTTW's "Wild Chicago" with host Will Clinger and its "Wild Chicago" companion guidebook. The Chicago GIJCC has participated over the years in local fundraisers and donations for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots campaigns and a Chicago-area Veterans of Foreign War post, among others.
