Waukegan Township scholarships: Waukegan Township Supervisor Patricia Jones has announced the availability of college scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Applications can be obtained at the Waukegan Township supervisor's office at 149 S. Genesee St., Waukegan; the township assessor's office at 415 Washington St. Suite 206, Waukegan; Park Place Senior Center, 414 S. Lewis Ave., Waukegan; and at Waukegan, North Chicago, and Carmel high schools and St. Joseph High School in Kenosha and Waukegan; and North Chicago Public Libraries.

The application deadline is April 1. Late applications will not be accepted. For information, call Dulce Ortiz at the township office, (847) 244-4900.

General Assembly scholarships: State Rep. Kathy Ryg has announced that she is accepting applications for the 2008-09 General Assembly Legislative College Scholarships until April 8.

Eight one-year, full tuition scholarships are available to high school seniors, college and graduate students attending Illinois state universities in the fall. Eligible applicants must be residents of the 59th District, which includes all of or parts of Buffalo Grove, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Indian Creek, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Mettawa, Mundelein, North Chicago, Northbrook, Park City, Prairie View, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, and Wheeling.

Awards will be made in conjunction with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. Financial need will be determined by their scoring of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. ISAC has additional information on scholarships, FAFSA, grants and loans that can be accessed at www.collegezone.com.

Rep. Ryg's Legislative Scholarship selection will be guided by the following criteria: scholarship; financial need; community service and extracurricular activities; and an essay on educational goals.

Grayslake Greenery Garden Club: The Grayslake Greenery Garden Club has announced the offering of its annual scholarship program for 2008. The competition for up to $1,500 in scholarship money is open to full or part-time Lake County resident students. Eligible students include graduating high school seniors and community college, college and graduate students pursuing studies in horticulture-related fields. This refers to such courses as landscape architecture, agriculture, forestry, floral design, environmental sciences and related subjects.

Good Shepherd Auxiliary: The Auxiliary of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital offers scholarships for students residing in the hospital service area who will attend school in Illinois and pursue an education in a health-related field.

The hospital's service area includes the following zip codes: 60010, 60012, 60013, 60014, 60021, 60042, 60047, 60050, 60051, 60060, 60067, 60073, 60074, 60084, 60098, 60102, 60110, 60118, 60156, 60192, 60194 and 60195.

Current references, transcripts and proof of acceptance from the institution and acceptance into a health care professional program are required. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of attitude and desire toward education, leadership, citizenship, personality and financial need.

Applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered and filed with the Auxiliary Scholarship Committee no later than April 30. The recipients will be notified by early June.
