The National Education Association celebrates Read Across America Day every year in March. More than 45 million people and students participate each year in the program, according to estimates.
Some schools celebrate a day. Others celebrate an entire week.
Schools in Keeneyville Elementary District 20 hosted a variety of events over several days earlier this month.
Roughly 70 community leaders, politicians, parents and other volunteers poured into classrooms March 20 at Waterbury Elementary School in Roselle to read to students. The day's theme was "Oh, the Places You'll Go When You Read."
Dozens of volunteers did the same at Greenbrook Elementary School in Hanover Park.
