Marmion-Rosary gets jazzy with first-place trophy at festival
The Marmion-Rosary Jazz Band competed with 66 jazz ensembles and combos at the North Shore Jazz Festival at Glenbrook South High School.
The Marmion-Rosary Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo both received the first-place trophy in Class A competition recently.
The Marmion-Rosary Jazz Ensemble is made up of 18 students from Marmion Academy and Rosary High School and is directed by Steven Thurlow. Members of the ensemble are Terance Vant of St. Charles and Evan Kline-Wedeen of Big Rock on Alto Sax; Chris Dukes of Elburn and Christine Funk of St. Charles on Tenor Sax; Dan Conlin of Aurora on Bari Sax; Matt Jacobs of Geneva, Nick Daly of Winfield, Dan Brankin of Montgomery, Ed Randerson of Sandwich and Nathan Shorr of Geneva on Trumpet; Tim Handell of Aurora, Steve Kluber of Aurora, Joseph Burroughs of Elburn, Paul Tkach of Geneva, Brendan Whiting of Aurora on Trombone; Rachel Maley of Aurora on Piano; Julian Cammarano of Aurora on Bass and Peter Naughton of St. Charles on drums. Members of the jazz combo are Tim Handell, Dan Conlin, Rachel Maley, Julian Cammerano and Peter Naughton.
The band also finished second in class 1A at the Jazz in the Meadows Festival hosted by Rolling Meadows High School
