Briefs: District 300 corrects bell times

Community Unit District 300 mistakenly sent out the wrong 2008-09 bell times for Carpentersville's Perry Elementary School last week. These are the correct times: Next school year, Perry will go from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, Perry will go from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Morning kindergarten will run from 8:15 to 11 a.m. every day. Afternoon kindergarten will go from 11:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

Fire department adds boss

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District got a new second assistant fire chief Tuesday. Kevin Rynders has been in the fire service industry for 33 years and comes to the fire department from the Hoffman Estates Fire Department, where he recently retired after 28 years. In Algonquin, he'll be responsible for, among other things day-to-day operations, training and fire investigations.

Elgin High flea market

The Elgin High School Parent Teacher Organization presents its 35th annual Collectibles, Crafts and Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the school, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin. Proceeds will buy school supplies and fund college scholarships. About 160 dealers will sell country collectibles, Depression glassware, Elgin memorabilia, vintage linens, records and books, tools and gadgets, sports cards and memorabilia. Open day at Bandits store

The Chicago Bandits women's pro softball team, which will play games at Judson University in Elgin for at least the next three years while a larger stadium is being built, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at their team store, 72 S.
